A Simple Skill That is an SEO Secret Weapon?

There is one key skill that is often overlooked in the quest for higher search engine rankings. Yet almost everyone who uses the web will at least have heard of it. Good Web Designers use it every day and real SEO experts use it too. So what is this skill?

Lets see what the well known and respected SEO Expert Jim Westergren has to say about it. Recently he listed what he sees as the essential skills that any SEO expert or good Internet Marketeer needs to know. Top of that list was HTML:

“As an SEO, knowing HTML is a must. You need to see and understand how the search engines are reading the source code of the web pages.”

Its an excellent and often overlooked point – hence the little known secret! If you know HTML (which is easy to learn) you can really get under the skin of any web page and start to see how the search engine reads the page. So it seems that a little time spent brushing up on your html skills will be time well spent.

You can use your updated or new knowledge of html to design or alter your pages so that the search engines can read through them easier. If you stop to think about it for a moment you will see that this makes perfect sense. I mean who likes a hard read! I remember having to study Dicken’s classic book “Hard Times” during my school days and boy that was a hard read. It wasn’t just the subject matter but also the tiny font and the immense word density of the pages.

In order to put this key skill into practice you don’t have to be a professional code wrangler but you must at least know how a web page is structured, what the main tags are, and how they effect the readability of the page. With this knowledge you can take your current SEO skills to the next level and fine tune your pages for even more exposure.

So the Secret SEO Weapon is not so secret afterall. Yet my guess is that many internet marketeers and many self proclaimed SEO experts have probably overlooked this simple and yet essential skill. So be good to your search engine robot friends and make it easy for them to read your pages. I am sure they will thank you for it by promoting your pages up the search engine rankings.

Using SEO With Your Nonprofit Website – The Basics

Good SEO is essential for your nonprofit website’s success. SEO (Search Engine Optimization) techniques increase your site’s chance of rising higher in organic search results (such as when people do a Google search for “Los Angeles Non Profit”) and attaining better site ranks in numerous directories. In a world where pay-per-click advertising devours millions in charitable advertising dollars each year, it makes sense to do everything you can to achieve great organic, unpaid results. Good SEO can help you do that.

There are countless books and sites devoted to improving your site’s SEO and SEO considerations. Without getting into too much detail, here are 5 techniques that will help you in your SEO mission.

Search Engine Spiders And Your Nonprofit Website

Search engine spiders “feed” on good SEO content. Many nonprofit websites owners think content only appears on the written page; i.e., the stuff you read directly on the site. While it’s partly true—it’s definitely not the whole story! Spiders also read Meta tags, coding, and even the page names you’ve given to your website’s files (look up in the browser bar title in your browser to see what I am talking about).

501c3 Website Page Names

One trick I recommend is using accurate page names to increase your SEO presence. For example, a page named “page5.html” means nothing to a human and search engines won’t care about it. On the other hand, consider the page name: “save-atlantas-trees.html.” This page name says basically what you can expect from it. It may not seem like much at first glance—but if you think of how search engines index this kind of material and use it to help catalog, sort, and show search results to potential clients and customers, you can see the benefit of optimizing your page names.

Charity Domain Name

Did you know your domain name is another secret SEO weapon? Let’s say your nonprofit is named “Benny Johnson Foundation” because Benny Johnson founded the organization. It’s fine as a general non-profit name, but as a domain name, it doesn’t give a clue about what the Benny Johnson Foundation does. This can leave potential donors guessing about the cause and hurt your organization’s donations.

It’s vital to select a domain name that matches your organizations mission and location.

If you must have a non-keyword domain name as your primary, consider adding additional domain names which are rich in keywords such as these fake nonprofit examples helppheonixkids.com and chicagocatshelter.com . These domains can forward to your main domain, hooking customers in through their rich, applicable content. Forwarding a domain name is done on the server level – usually free of charge.

Charity META Tags

Lastly, Meta tags are an SEO staple. They live in the coded header of your web pages, literally offering search engines a platter of keywords and data to propagate. Meta tags are the easiest thing you can add to your nonprofit site. Be sure they use optimized keywords that advertise your charitable organization well.

SEO considerations are worth tackling, whatever your nonprofit size. Excellent SEO habits can improve your site’s worth and presence without costing a fortune in advertising!

SEO Expert Or Just A Cowboy?

As a website owner it is perfectly natural to expect your website to rank near the top of the search results. After all, with all that fantastic content that you’ve just spent days and weeks fine-tuning, how could it not be immensely popular? And as sure as night follows day, when your site fails to make the first page it’s tempting to blame Google, because, how could your beautiful new website be the problem? So, take a deep breath and read the next line. It’s not Google’s fault, it’s not your website’s fault: it’s your fault.Sorry, but you haven’t finished the job. Your next task is going to be challenging, but in this new world, competition is fierce, and to finish the job you’ll need to pay careful attention to the various ways you can claw your site up the rankings. But don’t despair. You can get help, it even has a name Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and there are plenty of consultants and companies offering SEO services, the only problem is sorting the wheat from the chaff. Luckily for you, you are just about to read The Six Golden Rules for Choosing an SEO consultant.Golden Rule Number 1: Contacted by an SEO firm? Keep your wits about you!Although it does not automatically follow that all SEO firms that contact you are just out for a quick buck you should keep your wits about you and be wary of any that do. The majority of good SEO consultants will rather react to an inquiry than spend time trawling the Internet looking for poorly optimized websites.Golden Rule Number 2: Guarantees are lies – spurn them and the companies that offer themOkay, as Golden Rules go it is not fair to say that all guarantees are lies, there are a few genuine guarantees that are offered in good faith and as a sign of confidence, nevertheless err on the side of caution and treat them all as you would a suspect standing over a dead body with a smoking gun.SEO consultants have no control over how the search engines search; they have no influence over the competition and so no matter how much you want it they are not in any position to offer you meaningful guarantees with regards to the results that can be achieved. There are no “special relationships” or “tricks”, if you are offered a guarantee, or think yourself covered for insisting on one, it is quite possible that the guarantee offered will be worthless.Guarantees that are freely offered are generally not what they seem. Anyone with a basic knowledge of SEO will be able to rank you high for an uncompetitive search phrase; being ranked number one for a search phrase that no one is using is as useful and expensive as erecting a billboard in the middle of the Sahara Dessert.Golden Rule Number 3: Secretive SEO’s should be shown the door Your relationship with an SEO consultant should be similar to that you would expect from your accountant as you are ultimately responsible for your website and the actions of the people that you employ to build and maintain your website. There is no reason for an SEO consultant not to explain why and what they are doing and they should be prepared to document all that they have done. They should not insert undocumented code and you should be careful of those that want to install their own software; give consideration as to what will happen if you decide at a later date to end you relationship with them.Golden Rule Number 4: Treat references with a pinch of saltReferences are useful but will not always tell the whole story. Ten years is a lifetime in SEO, and it is a subject that is more to do with understanding the “now” than the “then”.Search engines in their current form first started to appear in the mid 90’s and a lot has changed in search engine technology which gave birth to the SEO consultant. As the search engines have become more adept at spotting and penalizing websites that achieve prominence by stealth rather than merit, so SEO techniques have had to evolve. Despite the SEO basics being the same for any website how they are applied and to what degree is very dependent on each specific website; its design, maturity, market, purpose, objectives, the type and size of the organization as well as how competitive the market. Some SEO techniques that are relevant and effective for some websites will be irrelevant and ineffective for others.Golden Rule Number 5: Prepared to be disappointedLimit your expectations. No matter how good the SEO consultant they will not be able to take you from ‘nowhere’ to a number one listing overnight. There is no magic bullet that will allow a one page website to permanently out rank a large multi-national, if you believe those that say there are, expect to be disappointed.SEO takes hard work, time and patience. Golden Rule Number 6: Are they worthy of your trustThe most important quality to look for in an SEO consultant is trust, as more often than not you will be entrusting your SEO consultant with your business and reputation. If you are not familiar with SEO speak you need someone who is not going exploit your ignorance, isn’t going to shift blame on to others and is going to do things right, with long term objectives, and not implement solutions that offer immediate rewards followed swiftly by long term and serious pain.A good and trustworthy SEO consultant is worth their weight in gold, like good neighbors; when you have found one, think twice before moving.Have you got a Champ or a Chimp? The following is a questionnaire that can be used as an aid to ask potential SEO consultants a number of questions. Based on how they respond to the questions it will help you root out those that lacks the basic knowledge, expose those that are willing to tell you what you want to hear and identify those that are prepared to tell you what you should hear.It is not recommended that the information you gleam from the questionnaire is used as the sole criteria for evaluating an SEO consultant but it will help identify the SEO cowboy, saving you time, money and heartache.

Do You Recognize These SEO Mistakes Bloggers Make?

Recently I had a chance to do a review for a blog. This blog was getting decent traffic (about 200 unique per day) and I believed that it had potential to get great traffic and monetize it. So I got deep into the blog and started noticing a small trend about this blog. This blog was not optimized properly. I told the owner about it and his response.

Gasp! HOW it can be?

Even when the blog had the SEO plugin and All the secret SEO blog techniques (a bit sarcasm here) applied properly. So I took a few of his post and started showing him the Basics of SEO.

The Big issues with bloggers is that they have 2 beliefs:

1. The more content I write, the better it’s for the blog.

2. The more frequent I write, the better it is.

While they are not wrong. But when you start blogging in this manner, you are all over the place without any focus.

Remember, Drip by Drip, A water can break any solid rock. It’s all about focus.

Here are The Universal Basics of SEO techniques.

1. Title Meta Tags of the Blog.

2. Description Meta tags

3. Keywords Meta Tags

4. H1 Meta Tag

5. Back Links.

Keywords Meta tags

We are starting with Keyword meta tags, because keywords are going to be bread and butter source for the SEO. If you are optimizing for the wrong keyword, you are pretty much screwing up yourself. With bloggers, when we get an idea to write about something, we tend to write like a man possessed. And in turn forgets about SEO and keywords.

It’s not bad about forgetting, so far, you end up using right keywords. After writing the post, Do a keyword research and update your blog elements.

Title, Description Meta Tags and H1 tags.

You’d be surprised to see how many bloggers make this mistake. Often The title of your blog post is taken as title by all the SEO plugins. Which in itself can be bad. I use “All In ONE SEO” and Update title and description tags so that the information is good, focussed and inviting.

H1 tags can be utilized by your Blog’s Style Sheet and you can make your title’s stylized or aligned with your blog design. It’s not that hard.

Back links

Now With the latest web 2.0 technologies, the idea of back links lost its luster. People (SEO guys) are not talking about them at all. Of course who’d talk about the most boring SEO technique when you can talk about web 2.0 and get paid handsomely for doing nothing at all.

I still believe (and I’ve tested it on my own sites) that getting back links is still the best way to boost your natural rankings in search engines.

Now all of these Basic SEO techniques make look deceptively simple but they are still powerful. Why not just go through your blog and start making few of the changes and notice the results of your traffic for couple of weeks. I guarantee you, the results will make you excited.

Increasing traffic with basic SEO techniques is possible for bloggers. Provided they understand and follow it properly.

Top Secret SEO Tips

What are the top secret SEO tips? The truth is there is no secret. There are only true facts on how you should optimize your blogs, articles, ads or whatever.

Most important is the content. Content is your best vehicle for driving traffic to your pages. Quality content will keep traffic flooding to your door.

Research your material. Find an authoritative voice to learn from and always provide unique content to your readers.

Makes sure you use links. Back links add value to your site for the search engines. But don’t just stuff any links into you content. Be sure that they are related to your subject and are helpful to your audience. You disperse them in your content or provide a helpful resource box with all your links in it.

While we are on the subject of links, use text links on your website. When you use image links then don’t give them a name in your alt tags instead give them a number like “jpg 1″. This way when the image is not relevant the search engines will not count them as “relevant” to your website.

Remember that rating number one is not necessarily the best place to be in the search engines. When you are placed at the top you typically get a lot of “tire kickers”. Aim to be somewhere around 3rd or 4th. the people who tend to look further down the page tend to be more targeted traffic.

One way to rise in the rankings however is to provide fresh content on a regular basis. Search engines love new content and you will tend to rank higher with quality fresh content supplied on a regular basis.

Go for keyword phrases and not just single keywords. Again more targeted traffic tends to search for keyword phrases than just one word.

A Secret SEO Technique Most People Don’t Use

Those who have been in the business of building websites and business are familiar with the very basics of SEO techniques in order to get ranked well within the major search engines. We have all heard or read many tutorials drumming the importance of using keywords in the titles, headline and contents of a web page.

Some even get more technical and began to use active linking strategies. In fact active linking strategies can be one of the best ways to get ranked high with the search engines but I’ll explain that another time.

What we are going to talk about is a little secret 99% of sites don’t use and this also includes websites that PAY for SEO. This is not a secret which is going to cost money nor does it take hours, days or weeks to master. You don’t have to go to a product page which is going to tell you how great it and then demand money for software. In fact once you read what I’m taking about you can go ahead and use this trick on all your sites within minutes.

Insert the keyword in the text of a link. It’s a good idea to have 2-5 outgoing links with one or more keywords embedded. Confused?

Let’s say you’re building a website centered on vintage and classic cars. Two of your many keywords would be “vintage” and “classic”. Now you would want to add those two keywords to some of your out going links. It can be a link to a web page on your site, another website or even an affiliate website.

Still confused? Example:

Classic Cars (Would link to a page on your website)
Vintage Automobiles (Link to another website)
Buying Classic and Vintage Cars (Links to an affiliate website)

Now don’t think that this little trick by itself will send your rankings through the roof. You still have to engage in other SEO friendly techniques as well. But this little trick will definitely help in your quest to securing a first page spot on major search engines.

BUT

Even though it’s always good SEO to have keywords listed within the content of a web page, don’t over do it as you could be targeted for keyword harvesting. Most of webmasters prefer to use between 10-15 keywords per page in order to stay on the major search engines good books.

With this simple principle in mind it’s not hard to find ways of utilizing your keywords or phrases within your webpage and like various other techniques helps to drive traffic to your site and climb the search engine index.

Behind The Scenes Top Secret SEO Strategy

If you are new to SEO, you eagerly wish to know how to improve your search engine rankings. Like most other webmasters, you check your rankings and do everything you can to learn SEO.

However here is an important lesson, not just another theory or something technical. This is like going behind the scenes of Google. Ever asked yourself the question, but why do some websites rank on top and others rank on the last page.

The rate at which your rankings improve more towards the number one position, depends on several factors.

Mainly, the more backlinks you get and the faster you get them, the better. The more often you use the anchor text in the backlinks, the better. But here is more detail about what this all means.

Getting backlinks faster means get some everyday, no holidays. Take note of the time available you have and you should spend all the time you can on getting backlinks.

The more you get the better means, the quantity but also the quality. You do not want to get backlinks from blog comments, which are useless since most use the nofollow tag.

You do not need to check where you rank every day. First of all Google does not like it. They see the same searches everyday from the same ip address. That is strange. When your website appears in Google, somewhere in the last pages for the first time, same thing happens like when you get indexed for the first time.

Your rankings will come and go. Sometimes you see your website on let us say page fifty, and next day you cannot. But then again, the following day you see it back at fifty. Until you have a solid base of backlinks this will happen.

Why does this happen?

Google does not rank websites so fast, because they want to make sure that the backlinks you have did not happen by chance. They want the best websites, means also those that
constantly get backlinks.

That is the reason why it is important to get backlinks daily, because Google is looking for those websites, that are getting constant links.

When you have a brand new website, your site may appear in the index after few days, but until you get a solid base of backlinks it will come and go out of the index. Again backlinks determine if your site will or not get indexed. Once you have a solid base of backlinks, which means a good number of them, Google simple indexes your website completely. You will not come and go anymore.

Search engine optimization strategies have a significant meaning behind them. Mainly these strategies help you give search engines what they are looking for. SE, search engines look for specific factors in websites. What you do when doing SEO is basically creating the factors search engines want.

So the top secret SEO strategy is simple knowing what search engines are looking for to rank high certain websites instead of others. Then giving them when they need. Sounds very simple.

Remember to keep this in mind when doing SEO, because if you know where you are going and what search engines look for you have an advantage. Most webmasters do not know why they are ranked on the last page instead of the first page. But if they knew, then that alone should motivate them, knowing they are following the right road to the top of the search engine results.

SEO Search engine optimization is all about giving search engines what they want, to please their customers. Find out how to do that using OutRankSmart seo software.
